About package searching

General notes

When searching for a package, you may leave any and all of the search parameter fields blank. However, you will most likely obtain a more successful result if you specify whatever information you may have about the package you are searching for, such as the consignee's last name, or its destination site & building.

Upper & lower case do not matter when searching.

The list of packages returned to you will be sorted in descending chronological order (most recent packages listed first).

Specific search fields

Carrier Tracking Number

If you specify the Carrier Tracking Number, a search will be made for all records in the database that match at least partially. So for example, if you enter "12345," then any packages with Carrier Tracking Numbers containing "12345" will be selected, such as "9800123458890," "4112345," or "1234590766," in addition to "12345."

You must specify at least 5 characters for a Carrier Tracking Number search.

IMPORTANT: searching the database for a Carrier No. can take a long time; the process can be sped up greatly if you specify other known parameters about the package you're looking for, such as a date range (e.g. if you know it was delivered sometime last week, enter last Monday's date in the From: date box and last Friday's date in the To: date box). For more on dates, see below.

Consignee Last Name & Match Options

There are four Match Options when searching for a Last Name. By default, if you enter a Last Name, the search engine will look for last names beginning with the text you entered (this corresponds to the "Begins with" button). For example, if you entered "Roberts," then packages with Last Name fields of both "Roberts" and "Robertson" will be returned.

Match Options:

NOTE: when specifying a last name, you must enter at least two letters. If you enter only a single letter, then you must also select "Exact match" from the Match Options.

If you know for sure that you definitely want "Roberts" and nothing else, then you can select the Exact match button. It is recommended that you stick with Begins with. Why? In some instances the last name is recorded with extra "whitespace" at the end, so if you're looking for an exact match for "Roberts" (no spaces in there) you won't get those packages for which the last name is recorded as "Roberts   " (note the extra spaces). Additionally, occasionally a first initial may be accidentally appended to the last name, and again an exact match won't find these errors.

IMPORTANT: searching the database for a Last Name can take a long time; the process can be sped up greatly if you specify other known parameters about the package you're looking for, such as a date range (e.g. if you know it was delivered sometime last week, enter last Monday's date in the From: date box and last Friday's date in the To: date box). For more on dates, see below.

Site & Building

If you choose to specify Site or Building, you must specify both. Otherwise, these inputs are ignored.

Dates

For From: date and To: date, you may specify neither, either, or both. If you specify only the From: date, you are weeding out all packages with dates before then. Similarly, if you specify only the To: date, you eliminate all packages more recent than that date.

If you want to search only on a single day, simply make the two dates equal. Note that the month and day must be either one or two digits, and the year must be four digits (i.e. "2001" and not "01") -- MM/DD/YYYY format.
